S.H. de Roos (1877–1962), known as "the first professional typographic designer in the Netherlands," apprenticed as a lithographer before studying at the Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. From 1907 until 1941 he was employed at the Lettergieterij "Amsterdam".
